The Founder Story

We are very pleased that you like the story behind our startup Bookhoover.® interested. You began with a Perfume cap, a Speed Reading Course and a relentless desire to revolutionize the world of reading.

Daniel, the founder of Bookhoover®, faced the challenge of balancing professional reading material with personal interests and hobbies. Like so many of us, he had been working alongside his job as a Development Engineer many other interests and passions that found too little space in his life. Reading and absorbing knowledge from books was important to him, but there often seemed to be a lack of time and energy.

The decisive turn came when he took part in a speed reading course and realized that his reading habits played a major role. He decided to look into the subject more intensively and picked up tips and tricks from experts such as Jim Kwik, Tony Buzan and Tim Ferris. In the process, he realized that improving reading speed wasn't just about reading faster, but also about reading efficiently and overcoming outdated reading habits.

The eyes play a crucial role in this process, as they absorb the information. Daniel realized that almost everyone is able to read faster than most of us do. This very ability can be applied to printed and digital texts. By specifically controlling eye movements with a reading aid, old habits can be overcome and reading can become easier.

Initially, Daniel used various methods such as the index finger, pens or narrow objects as reading aids. But none of these solutions was satisfactory. Pens and objects required sustained effort to guide the eyes, and the index finger was too short and not ergonomic enough.

This gave rise to the idea of developing a reading aid that combined both - the Bookhoover® was born. Daniel received active support from Mana, physician and illustrator who helped develop the design and has since been an integral part of the Bookhoover®-Teams is.

The first prototypes were created using 3D printing and allowed Daniel to guide his eyes more comfortably through the lines of text. The integrated pen also allowed him to write more ergonomically. But that was just the beginning. Everyone has different preferences for pens and finger types. As digital writing also became more important, the idea for a stylus for digital handwriting was born.

The development of the Bookhoover® was a long process in which numerous designs and functions were tested. There were many failed attempts and variants until the first final Bookhoovers® emerged. The positive reactions of the first testers at home were an encouraging confirmation that this product offers added value.
